While we've seen the actors come together to talk about the futuristic Mirai car that guzzles garbage, something even crazier happened late last night. Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd reprised their iconic characters from Back to The Future for a very special appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! It was a once in a lifetime event that brought the teenage rock star and his scientist companion to the real 2015, where things just have not turned out the way they imagined. Sure, Marty McFly's no longer an asshole. But there are no flying cars. No Hoverboards. And what happened to the Cubbies?

Jimmy Kimmel had to drop some heavy truths about 2015 on Marty McFly and Doc Brown. Neither of the pair had heard about the Internet. The talk show host was quick to correct any misconceptions about flying vehicles. But, as Jimmy Kimmel points out, we do have a lot to celebrate in this current 2015 timeline. Take the donut/croissant hybrid known as the cronut, for instance. There's also selfies. And you can watch TV on your phone while using the toilet! Isn't the future grand?

Doc and Marty's appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! topped a whole day's worth of excitement. October 21, 2015 was officially known as Back to The Future Day. And for super fans of the franchise, the events throughout the past 24 hours did not disappoint! Yesterday was the same date Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) and Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd) traveled to from 1985 in the beloved classic Back to the Future Part II. Fans around the world celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the original classic with Universal Pictures Home Entertainment releasing a new Blu-ray & DVD box set. And all three movies were back in theaters.

Also during the day, Doc Brown arrived from the past to offer a heartfelt message to everyone around the world, direct from inside the iconic DeLorean. The classic sequel Back to the Future Part II featured a number of "predictions" about what advancements in technology may have been invented by the time 2015 rolls around, like hoverboards, self-lacing sneakers and self-drying clothes. Sadly, we didn't get to see any of that by the time October 21 rolled around. But Doc offered some words of wisdom and encouragement, stating that since none of these advancements have happened, none of our futures are set yet.

Yesterday, we also got an exciting five-minute video, where Toyota unveils their new vehicle, the Toyota Mirai, which uses hydrogen cell fuel technology predicted by Back to The Future. In the full-length short film, dubbed Fueled by the Future, Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd are joined by an engineer named Misha, who is seen collecting trash in his Toyota Tacoma, just like the one Marty drives at the end of Back to The Future, at some iconic locations fans of the franchise will recognize. The "Fueled by the Future" video is the last in the "Fueled By Everything" online video series demonstrating hydrogen fuel's potential to be sourced from almost anything, including solar, wind and trash.

Yesterday marked the official on-sale date of the Mirai, the same date that was "the future" in the storied Universal franchise. More than 2,000 people so far have requested to buy a Mirai in California, where it is first available. While drivers can't exactly throw soda cans and banana peels into the Mirai fuel tank and expect to cruise the roads of California, organic waste can decompose and produce biogas at landfills. This gas can be purified and converted into hydrogen for fuel. The only emission from the Mirai's tailpipe is water. While we remember and revisit October 21 all over again, as though we had a time machine, take a look at this cool reunion between the actual Doc and Marty. This is the cherry on top of a packed and very fun day! And be sure to stay to the end to watch Huey Lewis perform his hit from the soundtrack 'Back in Time'.
