Quiver Distribution has released the official trailer for Bandit, a new feature film based on the true story of the "Flying Bandit" --- a family man who becomes a notorious armed bank robber on the road. Featuring a cast including Josh Duhamel and Mel Gibson, the film arrives in theaters and on demand on Sept. 23, 2022. You can watch the new trailer below to catch a sneak peek at the movie.
Allan Ungar directed Bandit using a screenplay by Kraig Wenman. Along with Duhamel and Gibson, the film also stars Elisha Cuthbert and Nestor Carbonell. You can read the official synopsis below.
In 1985, Gilbert Galvan Jr (Josh Duhamel), a charming career criminal, escapes from a US prison in Michigan and crosses the border into Canada where he assumes the identity Robert Whiteman. After falling in love with Andrea (Elisha Cuthbert), a caring social worker he can’t provide for, he turns to robbing banks and discovers that he’s exceptionally good at it. Under the guise of a security analyst, Robert begins flying around the country robbing multiple cities in a day, eventually catching the attention of national news outlets that dub him The Flying Bandit. Addicted to the rush and money that provides his double life, Robert eventually turns to loanshark and reputed gangster Tommy Kay (Mel Gibson) for bigger opportunities. But with Robert’s notoriety growing in record time, he is put into the direct sights of a ruthless detective (Nestor Carbonell) who will stop at nothing to bring him down.
Bandit Is Based on a True Story
"Having grown up as a filmmaker in Toronto, I always wanted to find bold and audacious stories to tell that also incorporated some sense of 'home,'” Ungar said in a statement about the movie, per Collider. "As I set out on my first directorial efforts, I chose projects that would allow me to improve on skills I already began developing, but that would ultimately shape me into a credible director."
He added, "However, in the back of my mind I still wanted the identity of my films to have some connection to that 'home.' With a country so rich in its history, I felt that it was only a matter of time before I would come across a story that had all the right elements to make a powerful and convincing film that people not only could relate to, but that they would go out and actually want to see. That’s how I felt about Bandit."
Bandit will be released in theaters and on demand on Sept. 23, 2022, courtesy of Quiver Distribution and Redbox Originals. It is rated R for sexual content, language, and some violence.
