Though Euphoria star and executive producer Zendaya recently teased what fans might expect from the show's upcoming third season, saying she'd like to see the main cast in their lives post-high school, one familiar face will be missing from the friend group.

Barbie Ferreira, who has played Katherine "Kat" Hernandez on Euphoria since the critically-acclaimed drama premiered in 2019, announced Wednesday that she would be exiting the show ahead of season three.

Ferreira shared the news through her Instagram stories, posting a heartfelt tribute to her character alongside fan art of Kat in her financial dominatrix gear (drawn by none other than co-star Hunter Schafer).

"After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I'm having to say a very teary eyed goodbye," she wrote. "I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it."

"Love you, Katherine Hernandez," Ferreira added alongside emojis representing her Euphoria character.

Ahead of the season two premiere, rumors began circulating that there had been tension between Ferreira and the show's creator Sam Levinson. In February 2022, The Daily Beast alleged that Ferreira "walked off set at least two times" while filming the second season, "not including the time [she] had to be helped off after she slipped and fell twice, twisting her ankle during the filming of episode four's hot tub-puking sequence."

But Ferreira, who recently made her big-screen debut in Jordan Peele's Nope, denied the rumors of a rift between herself and Levinson.

"What's interesting about this season is there are so many more eyes on it that even the news cycle has been so interesting to see," Ferreira told Insider after the season 2 finale aired. "I've seen so many different things and a lot of it is untrue, and some of its kind of mundane little things."

"Sometimes, things take on a life of their own, and they're not rooted in the truth, but it's okay because I know it's just out of passion and out of curiosity and all that good stuff," she said. "So I'll take it. I'll take the good and the bad."
