George Clooney's Batman from the 1997 movie Batman & Robin is getting a Funko Pop figure, and for better or for worse, the suit doesn't include the controversial nipples many associate this version of The Dark Knight with. Though the classic DC movie has gotten a lot of flak over the years, many fans of the Caped Crusader still enjoy the movie and remember it with a fond nostalgia, and the Clooney Batman will look quite nice on your shelf next to collectors' other versions of Batman figures.

One of the most unique aspects of Clooney's version of the Dark Knight in Batman & Robin was how nipples were designed onto his Batsuit; Robin's suit would have them as well. Director Joel Schumacher would explain this decision years later, suggesting the idea was for the Batsuit to be more anatomically correct by using Greek statues as inspiration. At the time, he had no idea that including the nipples would become such a great source of controversy over the years, much less serving as perhaps the most talked about aspect of the movie over two decades later. Though it should be noted that the Batsuit Funko went with is Clooney's costume from the third act of the movie, and it was the one Batsuit that didn't include nipples on the actual costume. It's possible that Funko went with this version simply because of that fact.

Directed by Schumacher and written by Akiva Goldman, Batman & Robin starred George Clooney alongside Chris O'Donnell as the titular crime-fighting duo. The star-studded cast also included Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr. Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl, and Michael Gough as Alfred Pennyworth. In the movie, Batman, Robin, and Batgirl team up to put a stop to Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy's plans to freeze the world and repopulate it with mutated plants. The movie was met with very negative critical reception upon its release, but it has since developed a bit of a cult following.

Following in the footsteps of Adam West, Michael Keaton, Val Kilmer, George Clooney, Christian Bale, and Ben Affleck, The Lighthouse star Robert Pattinson will be the next actor to take Bruce Wayne to the big screen. As the project has not yet begun shooting, we haven't gotten to see any sneak peeks of Pattinson in the new version of the Batsuit, and it remains to be seen what the next theatrical iteration of Batman will look like. Given the attention that's come out of Batman & Robin's Batman having nipples on his Batsuit, however, it's safe to assume Pattinson's version won't have them. We'll all find out for sure when the movie is released on June 25, 2021. Directed by Matt Reeves, the movie will also star Paul Dano, Zoe Kravitz, Andy Serkis, Jeffrey Wright, Jayme Lawson, Peter Sarsgaard, with Colin Farell also reportedly in talks to star as the Penguin.

The Batman & Robin Batman Funko Pop figure ships in January 2020. If enough fans pick one up, maybe we'll see Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Robin, and Batgirl get the Pop treatment in the future. Regardless of where the movie might stand for some fans compared to the other Batman movies, Batman & Robin is a very memorable movie and the Clooney Batman makes for a fun collectible.
