Comic-Con 2015 is exactly one week away. And that means EW is bringing us their exclusive Comic Con preview, which has a ton of new photos and info on all the movies heading to San Diego. They kick things off with their cover reveal, which features Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice's holy trinity of Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot). We also get several new photos, most notable for offering a look at Princess Diana of Themyscira in her civilian dress, dancing with Bruce Wayne (are they romantically involved), and Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor before he loses all of his hair. There is also an interview with the cast and crew, including this tidbit about how director Zack Snyder first pitch the idea of having these two DC Comics titans face off against each other. The movie started as an end-credit Easter egg.
"I said, 'What about at the end of the movie we do a scene where there's a crate full of kryptonite delivered to Wayne Manor. Everyone was like...'Okaay.' Once you say it out loud it's a problem because you can't unsay it."
Ben Affleck goes on to talk about taking on one of the most iconic roles in any medium. He will be playing the caped crusader only four years after Christian Bale left the cape and cowl behind, with The Dark Knight Rises closing up shop in 2012. As we've often heard, this is an older Bruce Wayne, one slightly based on Frank Miller's seminal The Dark Knight Returns.
"He's on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it. But this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical. We accept that he's played by actors with different interpretations. He's at the end of his run and maybe the end of his life. There's this sort of world-weariness to it...He's on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it, but this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical."
In Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Bruce Wayne views Superman as someone who could become an overlord. So he decides to take him out for good. The film will also include Wonder Woman and Aquaman, as it sets out to set up Justice League Part 1. Zack Snyder talks about the immense work it takes to lay all the ground work for DC Comics next 5 years at the movies.
"It's a marathon. No, it's a marathon within a marathon. Do you know that race from Death Valley to the top of Mount Whitney? It's, like, 100 miles and it's from the lowest point in the continental United States to the highest. It's crazy. Anyway, it's like that."
