The Batwoman TV series could be filming in spring 2019, according to a new report. The CW made a pretty big splash recently by announcing that the DC Comics character would be making her live-action debut during this year's Arrowverse crossover event. Not long after, news broke that the character would be getting her own series, which is currently being developed by the network. Now we have word as to when the series may go in front of cameras, which also clues us in as to when we might see this thing make it to air.

According to a report from Geeks Worldwide (formerly Omega Underground), Batwoman is looking at a springtime production start. no specific filming dates have been revealed at this time. The CW is working on the show as we speak and hasn't committed to a series order yet, as far as we know. That said, it seems likely things will trend in that direction. Even so, it's unclear if they will shoot a pilot first or proceed with a full season. If they do, it may be a shorter first season than the 20 or so episodes that most of the DC shows on the network get.

Assuming things progress well and Batwoman gets a full season order, with filming taking place in spring, it then seems very likely that The CW would look to debut the series as part of their fall 2019 lineup of shows. That would give theme a total of six DC shows, with Gotham City hero joining the likes of The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning. At this point, the small screen version of the DC universe is working very well for the network. Why stop now?

Batwoman will center on Kate Kane. She's a woman armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind who soars onto the streets of Gotham dishing out beatings to bad guys. She's going to be portrayed as an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter. She's going to be a flawed character who will have to overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham's symbol of hope. This series will also finally bring Gotham City into the Arrowverse fold. At the present time, no actress has been cast in the role of Kate Kane.

The series is being developed by Caroline Dries, known for her work as showrunner on The Vampire Diaries, alongside Greg Berlanti, who produces the other Arrowverse shows, in addition to Riverdale and the upcoming DC shows on the DC Universe streaming service. With the crossover event coming up fast we should be hearing word of who will be playing Batwoman sooner rather than later, unless The CW can manage to keep it a secret. We'll be sure to keep you up to date as more details on the project are made available. This news comes to us courtesy of Geeks Worldwide.
