Ben Affleck has responded to recent articles talking trash about his appearance while filming Triple Frontier on a beach in Hawaii earlier this month. The actor has been the butt of many jokes over the last year, mostly stemming from his on again/off again relationship with his Batman character. Affleck doesn't seem like he was ever really given a fair shake when it comes to playing Batman within the DCEU and now he's getting flak for looking a little out of shape on a beach.

The New Yorker recently published an article called the Great Sadness of Ben Affleck, which made light of his weight gain and poked fun at his giant tattoo of a phoenix rising from the ashes on his back. The writer of the piece, Naomi, Fry referenced his "gut" and made a comparison to the French actor Gerard Depardieu. The article, along with jokes from social media had many fans of Ben Affleck stepping up to say that he was being body shamed, but Affleck stood up for himself in a funny tweet. He had this to say.

"@NewYorker I'm doing just fine. Thick skin bolstered by garish tattoos."

While some made fun of Ben Affleck's supposed weight gain, a few people in the fitness industry noted that the actor was probably in between training faces. They state that the actor was more than likely in a bulking phase of training before heading into the cutting phase. It's unclear if that's the case with Ben Affleck, but it seems logical, especially considering all of the weight fluctuations he's expected to go through for any given part.

It's refreshing to see an actor clap back at the press in a self-aware, humorous way. People seem to forget that he has had a pretty rough year with a stint in rehab for alcohol abuse. But it seems that anything is fair game these days when talking about an aspect of a celebrity's personal life. It would be pretty interesting to see what a lot of the people who are making fun of Ben Affleck look like physique-wise and see what kind of tattoos they have. One can imagine that they're not all exactly the model type.

As for Ben Affleck, he doesn't really seem to care, which is the way it should be. However, it would be pretty cool to get some news about Matt Reeves' The Batman. There are a lot of conflicting reports out there, all of which claim that Affleck is done with the character after Justice League, but there has not been an official announcement from Reeves, Warner Bros., or Affleck concerning the matter. Whatever the case may be, Ben Affleck will more than likely have something humorous to say about it when the news is finally announced.
