The internet is not too happy with Ben Affleck. On social media, the actor has come under fire for remarks made during a new interview on The Howard Stern Show. During the interview, Affleck opened up on his marriage to Jennifer Garner, telling Stern he'd "probably still be drinking" if they hadn't split up in 2015. The actor added that his struggles with alcoholism stemmed, in part, from the unhappiness felt during the marriage.

"It's part of why I started drinking... Because I was trapped... We had a marriage that didn't work, this happens, with somebody that I love and respect, but to whom I shouldn't be married any longer... Ultimately, we tried. We tried, we tried because we had kids... I was like 'I can't leave 'cause of my kids, but I'm not happy, what do I do?' ... What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution."

For better or for worse, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner announced their split just one day after their 10th anniversary, taking an additional two years to file for divorce. Together, they are the parents of three children: a 16-year-old, a 12-year-old, and a 9-year-old. Perhaps Affleck was being candid and honest about how he felt at the time, but the comments have angered many who feel that the actor is "blaming" his alcoholism on Garner. Her name is now trending with fans rallying behind her.

Some of Garner's fans are pointing to an image taken in 2018 of the actress transporting Affleck to rehab, noting that this happened after their divorce. This has some feeling that it's especially unfair for Affleck to "blame" Garner for his alcohol struggles when she was trying to help him get better, even after their public split.

"When you can’t accept that your drinking problem is because of you, you still have a drinking problem. Jennifer Garner didn’t drive Ben Affleck to drink, she did however drive him to rehab probably saving his life," one tweet reads.

Someone else suggests Ben Affleck would've been better off just keeping his comments to himself by posting another tweet that says, "I think Abe Lincoln said it best: Better to remain silent and be thought a dick than to speak on Howard Stern about Jennifer Garner and remove all doubt."

"Ben Affleck says he was trapped in his marriage to Jennifer Garner and if still married to her he'd still be drinking," another fan opines. "I recently said Affleck is a jerk. Now he's gone and proved it (again). Jennifer Garner is the mother of his 3 children, he shouldn't say a whisper against her."

It's not all negative against Affleck. One post in defense of the actor notes, "He never blamed Jen Garner for his alcoholism. A dysfunctional marriage could be factor for an addiction, any negative life circumstance can be. That's what he meant. They're all ok now, have you seen anyone in Hollywood co-parenting as good as they do?"

In any case, Twitter is definitely a place for people to make their voices be heard, and the interview has people saying a lot. You can check out some of the other comments about the situation below. Meanwhile, Ben Affleck can be seen in The Tender Bar, hitting theaters on Dec. 17, while Jennifer Garner can be seen in Shawn Levy's upcoming sci-fi movie The Adam Project with Ryan Reynolds, Zoe Saldana, and Mark Ruffalo.
