The resetting of the DCU has caused a number of tricky moments for the final movies of the old DCEU. After the ultimately inconsequential appearance of Wonder Woman in Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Gal Gadot’s heroine was also meant to make a small appearance in The Flash. However, that cameo was scrapped in the Ezra Miller-led multiverse movie, although Ben Affleck does appear in the film in what is expected to be one of his final times as Batman. Now Affleck has revealed a few more details about how Wonder Woman’s cameo in the movie would have intersected with his Batman appearance.

Affleck appeared on the Smartless Podcast to promote his new movie Air, but the subject of The Flash obviously came up. When discussing how it felt to have another run out as Batman, Affleck revealed a bit more about how his small role in the movie would have originally involved Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman. He said:

“It's my best s--t I have done as Batman! I finally figured out how to play the guy! I know I quit but I got it now! Like you do the audition and you are on your way home, you are like 'No!' I don't want to give away any spoilers, but there was a scene where I get saved by Wonder Woman during a conflagration with some bad guys. She saves me with the Lasso of Truth, so what happens is that Batman divulges some of his real feelings about his life and his work. I was like 'Wait a minute; I got it!”

The DCU is now in a state of flux, with an uneasy crossover in progress that will see many of the old DCEU stars making way for new actors, new characters and new stories in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s reinvigorated DC Universe. While there are some actors who are set to reappear in the coming years, Gal Gadot’s future as Wonder Woman is less certain.

James Gunn has already announced that there will be a Wonder Woman project coming in the first slate of movies, but it will be a prequel that involves a younger iteration of the character. While it has not been confirmed whether Gadot will have any role to play in that or other projects, the original Wonder Woman 3 plan fell apart last year when the Patty Jenkins project was said to not fit with the new direction of the DCU.

So with Wonder Woman’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods cameo potentially being her last, fans will perhaps need to accept that a new Wonder Woman is coming and Gal Gadot’s time as the Amazonian could well be over. However, until there is any confirmation that Gadot is definitely done with the role, either from the actress or new DC Studios boss James Gunn, there is a still a small chance that she could return somewhere down the line.
