Ben McKenzie, best known for his stint as Ryan on The O.C., will be starring in Rowan Joseph's film adaptation of Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McKenzie is reprising his character from the recent one-man stage show.

Trumbo originally turned his 1938 novel into a feature film in 1971. This current incarnation will be based on Bradley Rand Smith's own adaptation of the book into a stage play, which debuted in 1983. The plot revolves around a World War I soldier suffering from such sever battlefield injuries that he cannot communicate with his fellow soldiers. This story of a man trapped inside his own body was also the subject of a Metallica song entitled One.

The film, which is already completed, will make its premiere on September 22nd in Austin, Texas.
