Former child star Ben Savage is looking to become a U.S. Congressman, and he's already got one vote with this endeavor. Rising to fame as one of the stars of the 90s sitcom Boy Meets World, Savage has since gotten involved with politics as well. He previously qualified to run for the West Hollywood City Council last year, and while he didn't win that particular election, the actor is setting his sights a bit higher with his next political move. He recently filed the official paperwork with plans to run for Congress, hoping to fill Adam Schiff's seat, which is reportedly soon to be vacant. For those wondering, Savage is a registered Democrat.

Savage's Boy Meets World co-star, Maitland Ward, spoke about her longtime friend's aspirations of joining the U.S. House of Representatives. Opening up about the situation to TMZ, Ward says she's fully in Savage's corner, noting that he's already got her vote. Even so, she also admits that Savage getting the win will be a challenge, though she has some ideas that could help the actor out.

"That was a little bit of a shock, but I support him in whatever he does," Ward tells TMZ, suggesting the man who Boy Meets World fans know as Cory Matthews would be a good fit for the job. "I think Cory could do a lot for society. I know he's been interested in politics for a very long time. I honestly think that he wants to better the community, he's really interested in businesses. I don't know now his platform, but I definitely see him wanting to be sort of a likable leader."

Advising that Savage should tout his celebrity status a bit more this time, she added, "He should definitely let people know that it's him and give it a nod, give it a wink."

While he's best known as an actor, Savage does have some political experience. In 2003, he served as an intern for United States Senator Arlen Specter as part of a program through Stanford University. Savage graduated from college with a political science degree and has maintained an interest in the realm of politics ever since.

Savage continues to act, recently appearing in the TV movie Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez. He previously reprised his role as Cory Matthews for the Boy Meets World spinoff Girl Meets World, which ended in 2017, and has since appeared in other shows like Criminal Minds, Speechless, and Homeland. As for Ward, she still technically works in show business, but now as an adult film entertainer.
