Following the casting of Meryl Streep yesterday, Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson have joined the cast of Suffragette.

Carey Mulligan stars as a young feminist who engages in violent acts to bring about more change. Meryl Streep is playing political activist Emmeline Pankhurst in a minor but important role, with Helena Bonham Carter, Romola Garai, Anne-Marie Duff and Samuel West set to co-star. No details were given for Ben Whishaw and Brendan Gleeson's characters.

Sarah Gavron (Brick Lane) is directing from a screenplay by Abi Morgan (The Iron Lady, The Invisible Woman). Ruby Films' Faye Ward and Alison Owen are producing, alongside executive producers Cameron McCracken, Tessa Ross and Katherine Butler. Production is scheduled to begin February 24 in the U.K.

Ben Whishaw, best known for portraying Q in Skyfall, will next be seen in Heart of the Sea, alongside Brendan Gleeson.
