While most audience members may only be familiar with Benedict Wong’s work as the MCU's current Sorcerer Supreme, a role he'll return to in this month's Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he actually has a film career that has spanned decades. Born in England, Wong's career began in the early 90s shortly after he graduated from Salford City College with a short stint on the BBC Radio series Kai Mei Sauce. Following years of being a character actor, Hollywood started to take notice of his talent, with later television appearances including the British police procedural The Bill, Netflix’s Marco Polo, and the criminally underrated Syfy series, Deadly Class, which was based on the comic book of the same name.

While Wong’s film career started out with minor roles in everything ranging from buddy comedies to psychological thrillers, he eventually found his groove in the sci-fi genre. Starting with Danny Boyle’s 2007 sleeper outer-space hit Sunshine, which also included his future MCU co-star Chris Evans, Wong’s career thrived in the world of cinematic science fiction, animation, and superheroes. He went on to be part of action blockbusters like 2013’s Hummingbird, Ang Lee’s Gemini Man with Will Smith, and, of course, his breakthrough role as Wong in 2016’s Doctor Strange alongside Benedict Cumberbatch. Here’s a look at the rest of Benedict Wong’s best movies, ranked.

Marvel Studios / Disney

The MCU leaped into the realm of mystical arts in 2016's Doctor Strange, introducing us to not only Benedict Cumberbatch's Stephen Strange, the arrogant neurosurgeon turned Sorcerer Supreme, but Benedict Wong's Wong. In the comics, Wong was traditionally depicted as Strange's Asian manservant, but filmmakers wanted to elevate the role to avoid racial stereotypes. They made Wong a master of the mystic arts himself, as well as the protector of the invaluable relics and books housed in the Sanctum Sanctorum.
