Benedict Wong has been the glue that's held Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe together. His character, Wong, is the Sorcerer Supreme of the MCU, giving him an importance he didn't hold within the Infinity Saga era. Wong seems to appear in nearly every Marvel project these days, whether in a feature film or on a Disney+ series. His character has made his way into Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law all within the last two years.

Wong is a character with a more prominent part to play in the events to come in the Multiverse Saga, as Kevin Feige and Disney have intentionally included his presence more than any other hero through the current phase. However, one reason may be the introduction of all the new characters. Whether it's Tatiana Maslany, Simu Liu, or Xochitl Gomez, the MCU has recently seen many fresh faces. Wong tells The Hollywood Reporter that it's almost his job to welcome new actors to the franchise as they find their role in the larger connected universe.

"Yeah. It’s funny, because I remember that with Simu. When they were filming, I think when they saw me arrive, they finally realized that they were in a Marvel film. I kind of put my wax seal of approval. I mean, obviously, what can I do but say welcome to the MCU — or sorry, the WCU [Wong Cinematic Universe], or whichever. And whatever learning curves and curveballs that I can add or any sort of advice, I’m always there. Especially with Xochitl as well, being just a very wide-eyed rabbit in the headlights. I think it’s kind of a duty really, being a member of a big ensemble company, to kind of steady people and reassure them."

We don't know what Wong's next project will be, whether it's Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, or something else entirely. However, fans will welcome the Sorcerer Supreme to any film or series he wants to be a part of.

Is Wong Ready for a Standalone Project?

Doctor Strange - Wong
Marvel Studios

Benedict Wong is an MCU veteran, but would the actor be ready for a standalone project? Almost every hero within the universe receives one project based on their character, whether in a feature film format or a Disney+ series. However, does Wong justify his own story outside another character's spotlight? Wong tells THR he believes there's room to do so.

"You know, a lot of people have said that. Yeah, I could certainly think of some ideas. But hey, it’s not for me to push that. If you ever see anyone, send the question over there. I mean, look, I love playing this role, and I think there’s so much more scope that we could go into with a series, yeah."

A story centering on the origins of Wong or what he does while the other MCU heroes are off fighting together could be an exciting take on the character. We've already seen some of his day-to-day life in She-Hulk, but watching the Sorcerer Supreme fight off a villain entirely on his own could be good for his development. Benedict Wong is one of the most beloved actors in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, so don't be surprised if Kevin Feige looks to capitalize on his popularity.
