Halloween seems a long way off right now, but fans of Hocus Pocus already wish away the months in between to see the Sanderson sisters fly again in Hocus Pocus 2, the sequel to the 1993 spooky comedy that sees Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. While recent comments have suggested that the end of filming was approaching, and previous interviews with the movie’s special effects team hinting that the three main stars only had a tight window for filming, Midler herself has now seemed to confirm that her part in the movie is done, which could perhaps indicate the shoot in Rhode Island is now complete.Considering the Sandersons are once again prominent presences in the belated sequel, it would be fair to assume that if its biggest star has wrapped on the movie, then any filming still to do can only be pick-up shots. Midler shared an image of cartoon versions of the Sanderson sisters, and simply commented, “THAT’S A WRAP!!!!”

Fans could not seem to decide what the item in the picture shared by Midler actually was, with some suggesting it could be a pin badge, while others thought it could be some other trinket given to the stars as a wrap gift reminder of their time on the movie. Either way, the news that filming is now done has stirred up calls for the trailer to be released, but fans could still be in for a little wait for that. While cinematic movie trailers tend to arrive four months or more ahead of the release date, Disney+ shows and films don’t usually see a trailer drop until about a month before the premiere date. This could mean that the first time we see footage from the film won’t be until the fall.

Hocus Pocus 2 Continues the Sanderson Story Thirty Years On

Bette Midler and Co-Stars Want to Return for Hocus Pocus 2

Hocus Pocus was not a huge box office success when it arrived in 1993. Having to compete for attention with monster blockbuster Jurassic Park, the film was considered a financial failure at the time, but subsequent Home Video releases saw its popularity grow, and soon the movie found its place in history, with families sharing the movie from one generation to the next. Now, after a long time away, the Sandersons are coming back in Hocus Pocus 2 for more fun this Halloween.

While Midler, Parker and Najimy will be joined by fellow returnee Doug Jones, who will reprise his role as Billy Butcherson, none of the other cast members from the first movie are expected to make an appearance. The cast will instead be made up of newcomers, including Whitney Peak, Lilia Buckingham, Belissa Escobedo, Tony Hale, Hannah Waddingham, Juju Brener, Froy Gutierrez, Taylor Paige Henderson, Nina Kitchen, and Sam Richardson.

There have been only a few details released officially about the movie, but from set videos to comments made in interviews by various set designers and crew, it seems likely the Hocus Pocus 2 will stick very close to the plot of the original movie with a few twists. Although this may not exactly set the world alight in terms of originality, it will bring with it a nostalgic sting for fans of the original movie and introduce new audiences to the Sandersons witchy mayhem.

Expect more details on Hocus Pocus 2 in a few months ahead of its Disney+ debut in October.
