We're almost to the very end of Saul Goodman's story. Initially, television history's most entertaining lawyer was first introduced on Breaking Bad, with Bob Odenkirk perfectly cast in the role. Because the character had so much unexplored potential by the time that series ended, the choice was made to delve further into the true story of Saul Goodman with the spinoff series Better Call Saul.Better Call Saul first premiered in 2015 and has since aired five seasons on AMC. It was previously announced that the upcoming sixth season would also be the final season of the show, though it would come with 13 total episodes, up from the usual batch of 10. On Twitter, series co-creator Peter Gould posted an image of a clapboard recently taken on the set, writing in the tweet, "Best cast and crew in the universe!"

Gould's name is also featured on the slate as he serves as the director of the episode with Marshall Adams as director of photography. Also seen is the episode number, #613, which is the series finale, showing that they're now wrapping up work on the show's final episode. The message #HEREforHALYNA is also brandished on the clapboard as a way of paying tribute to cinematographer Halyna Hutchins who was killed on set in New Mexico filming the movie Rust. Better Call Saul is also filmed in New Mexico.

Luis Moncada, a Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul actor who plays Marco Salamanca on both shows, commented on Gould's tweet by writing. He said, "NICE! Episode 613 of final season. When's it coming out? Miss You guys." Actress Julie Ann Emery, who played the memorable Betsy Kettleman in earlier seasons of Saul, also commented with three heart emojis.

Don't Expect a Happy Ending in Better Call Saul's Last Season

Rhea Seehorn, who stars as standout character Kim Wexler, has teased a bleak ending for the series. She has bluntly said that one good word to describe the last episodes is "devastating," but it's open to interpretation as to what she means by that. Does everyone have a depressing ending, including Kim? Or might she find a way to break free from the cartel and heading too far down into this criminal underworld, leaving Saul (aka Jimmy, aka Gene) to deal with his ultimate fate on his own?

In any case, it's the beginning of the end of Better Call Saul. As there are no plans for any more Breaking Bad spinoff shows or movies at this time, it's also possible that this is the last we will see of this universe. Breaking Bad is known for having a solid final season, sticking to the landing and putting an end to the series at just the right time. Let's hope the same thing happens with Better Call Saul.

The final episodes of Better Call Saul are expected to arrive on AMC sometime in mid-2022.
