Only the good die young, and this afternoon one of the youngest hearts in Hollywood passed away at the ripe age of 99. Two weeks short of her 100th birthday America's Sweetheart, Betty White, has passed. New Year's Eve celebrities flocked to Twitter to pay their respects:

Gary Scott Thompson tweeted, "As if 2021 could couldn’t get any worse. #RIPBetty Betty White, one of the most endearing and enduring faces on television, dies at 99."

George Takei sent out: "Our national treasure, Betty White, has passed just before her 100th birthday. Our Sue Ann Nivens, our beloved Rose Nylund, has joined the heavens to delight the stars with her inimitable style, humor, and charm. A great loss to us all. We shall miss her dearly."

America's journalist Dan Rather offered, "A spirit of goodness and hope. Betty White was much beloved because of who she was, and how she embraced a life well lived. Her smile. Her sense of humor. Her basic decency. Our world would be better if more followed her example. It is diminished with her passing."

Ellen DeGeneres paid her tribute by saying, "What an exceptional life. I’m grateful for every second I got to spend with Betty White. Sending love to her family, friends and all of us."

Robin Williams' daughter Zelda tweeted: "I’ve loved few things in comedy more than Betty White’s sense of humor, that mischievous twinkle in her eye when she knew she was about to do something raucous or naughty. Thanks for the endless decades of funny and for all the animals you helped. Rest easy."

The Fonz, Henry Winkler paid tribute to his friend by writing, "Betty White : I is very hard to absorb you are not here anymore.. But the memories of your deLIGHT are ..Thank you for yur humor , your warmth and your activism .. Rest now and say Hi to Bill"

Halsey was simple with a reply simply tweeting, "Betty :("

Lizzo also kept it simple.

Andy Cohen alluded to the New Years' toast for Betty. He said, "Tonight we will raise MANY glasses to the WONDERFUL legacy of Betty White!!!"

Mario Lopez said, "What an incredible life… RIP Betty White."

Even the WWE stepped in. Posting a photo of White with John Cena, their post states: "Legend. #BettyWhite"

And of course, Ryan Reynolds offered his tribute to his crush. The actor, who co-starred with White in The Proposal, wrote on Twitter, "The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret."

The world indeed will look different. Betty White would have turned 100 years young on January 17th, the same day a theatrical celebration will be held for the television star. She had been looking forward to celebrating the big day with her fans before she passed away on New Year's Eve.
