Fans who were looking forward to the return of Axel Foley next year will have to wait a bit longer. Paramount Pictures has taken Beverly Hills Cop 4 off its release schedule. It was initially slated to debut on March 25, 2016, but no new release date was given for the sequel. If it would have stayed in that release slot, it would have had to go up against the superhero adventure Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Eddie Murphy is set to return as Axel Foley, but the actor revealed in January that the script isn't quite ready yet, which could be the reason why this was pulled from the release schedule. Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) are writing the screenplay, with Brett Ratner attached to direct and Jerry Bruckheimer producing. It isn't known if any of the other original Beverly Hills Cop stars such as Judge Reinhold and John Ashton will return for the sequel.

The story reportedly centers on Axel Foley returning to Detroit during the worst winter on record, with production set to take place in and around Detroit. It isn't known if Paramount is seeking new writers for the sequel, but the project is still in active development. Are you upset that Beverly Hills Cop 4 won't be hitting theaters next year?
