New images from the set of the highly anticipated Beverly Hills Cop sequel, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, offer another look at Eddie Murphy’s return as the intrepid detective. Released courtesy of Daily Mail (which you’ll have to visit to see the images), these new images from filming also give us our first glimpse at Ma Rainey's Black Bottom star Taylour Paige, who is rumored to be playing Axel Foley’s daughter.
The images prove once again that, despite all the time that has passed since we last saw the character in 1994’s Beverly Hills Cop III, Eddie Murphy can still slip effortlessly into that iconic varsity jacket. Filming is currently underway on the sequel in Los Angeles, with these latest photos from the set revealing our first look at Taylour Paige alongside Murphy.
While details of Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley remain as mysterious and secretive as a typical Axel Foley case, a rumored plot synopsis has emerged that claims that reveal what the general outline of the fourth installment in the comedy cop franchise will be. “[Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley] is rumored to follow Axel (Murphy) returning to Beverly Hills to look into the death of an old friend while uncovering police corruption within the force,” the rumored logline reads. “In Los Angeles, he reunites with his daughter (Taylour Paige) and teams up with her by-the-book cop ex-boyfriend (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) to solve the case.”
Based on this, it sounds like Taylour Paige, who is best known for roles in the likes of White Boy Rick, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, and the upcoming remake of The Toxic Avenger, will be playing the estranged daughter of Axel Foley. Should this turn out to be accurate, and the smart money is that it will be, this will give Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley a whole new dynamic, as Axel attempts to solve another case. This time with his daughter and her ex-boyfriend in tow.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley Will Land on Netflix
Eddie Murphy will be far from the only member of the original Beverly Hills Cop cast to return for the legacy sequel. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is all set to bring back several members of the original cast alongside Murphy, including both Judge Reinhold and John Ashton, who will reprise their roles as Sgt. William "Billy" Rosewood and Sgt. John Taggart respectively. Paul Reiser is also set to reprise the role of Axel’s put-upon partner, Detective Jeffrey.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will add some new blood alongside the original cast, with Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Kevin Bacon all due to join Murphy on Axel Foley’s latest and long-awaited adventure.
Directed by Mark Molloy from a script written by Will Beall, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley does not yet have a release date but will debut on Netflix. Filming on Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is currently underway, with the sequel being produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman for Jerry Bruckheimer Films along with Eddie Murphy.
