Vertical Entertainment has unveiled the first domestic trailer from Beyond Skyline, with the studio also setting the movie for release on December 15. Fans got the first look at this Skyline sequel in August when the international trailer from XYZ Films was released, but this domestic trailer features plenty of new footage, that shows what happens to someone after they get sucked up into the blue light of an alien ship. The studio has also dropped a new poster and photos, along with an official synopsis which sheds some light on this mysterious story.

When the population of Los Angeles is vacuumed off the face of the earth, Detective Mark Corley (Frank Grillo) storms his way onto an alien ship to rescue his estranged son. But after crashing the ship in Southeast Asia, he must forge an alliance with a band of survivors to discover the key to saving his son and taking back the planet once and for all. While we saw the alien ship crashing in Southeast Asia before, it wasn't clear that Mark Corley was the one who crashed the ship, but it certainly explains how he made his way from Los Angeles to Asia.

This new trailer also shows Corley's estranged son Trent, played by Jonny Weston, waking up in the alien ship, presumably not too long after he was plucked from Earth, along with scenes of his father Mark preparing to infiltrate one of the ships again, although it's clear that members of a survival group, lead by Iko Uwais' character Sua, doesn't think he'll make it. Mark even admits that he knows it's a "one-way trip" but he has to go, as we see Mark entering the ship that took his son, along with more footage of him fighting some of the aliens. After the positive reactions to the first trailer in August, it's possible this sequel could end up doing much better than the original movie.

The original Skyline movie wasn't exactly a huge blockbuster, but it wasn't a box office flop either. The movie earned $21.2 million domestically and $66.8 million worldwide, which certainly aren't huge box office figures, by any means. Still, the movie only cost $10 million to make, so it was a modest success. Still, the movie was trashed by critics, earning a paltry 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The original movie starred Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson, Brittany Daniel, Crystal Reed, Neil Hopkins Donald Faison and David Zayas.

This new movie stars Frank Grillo, Bojana Novakovic, Callan Mulvey and Jonny Weston, along with Yayan Ruhian and Iko Uwais, who action fans will remember from The Raid movies. While we still have a few months left until this hits theaters, it's already at a disadvantage when it hits theaters, since it will be going up against what will likely be the biggest movie of the year, Disney and LucasFilm's Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Still, it's possible this could still find an audience craving a new sci-fi action movie.
