Netflix's raunchy coming-of-age animated comedy, Big Mouth, is returning to the streaming service next year. Season five was highly regarded, as were previous seasons. The characters went through arguably their biggest developments yet, and fans are sure to notice the characters in the sixth season aren't necessarily the same ones introduced in the first."There was an early review of the show that basically said, ‘Big Mouth gives zero f****,’” show creator and star Nick Kroll told Esquire back in 2020. He went on to say:

|We have tried to maintain that mantra as time has gone on, to just remember that part of the recipe for our success has been really going for it and not trying to play too safe. We've found the crazier the jokes, the more we're allowed to have bigger emotional moments — and the more [of those] bigger emotional moments, the more we're afforded the ability to make really insane, huge, hard jokes."

While there were no major cliffhangers, season six is sure to be filled with budding romances and mended friendships, and here is everything we know so far.

When fans left the students of Bridgeton Middle School in season five, the door was left wide open for characters to grow and develop. Characters found themselves and have come to terms with life throughout the season, growing because of it.

Some things that happened are Nick had finally overcome his hate worm thanks to some help from Nick Kroll himself, and he is set up to make amends with his friends in season six. Jessi realizes she is bisexual, and she rekindles her friendship with Missy while starting a romance with Ali. Finally, Jay realizes he is better off with Matthew than Lola and chooses him.

While no official announcement has been made regarding the cast of season six, it can be safely assumed that the cast of the fifth season will be returning to reprise their roles. Familiar voices such as Nick Kroll, John Mulaney, Jason Mantzoukas, Ayo Edebiri, and Jessi Klein are expected to return as Nick, Andrew, Jay, Missi, and Jessi, respectively. Also expected to return is Thandie Newton as Mona and Maya Rudolph as Connie.

While there hasn't been any word regarding guest roles, it can be expected there are plenty of surprises in store. After Hugh Jackman's cameo this past season, all bets are off for surprise guest spots. The series has attracted some major A-list talent, so it is exciting to think about whose voice will appear in season six. Something fans are actively advocating for is for more of the main cast to play themselves, similarly to Nick Kroll in season six.

Unfortunately for the series, a character who will not be making a return in the latest installment is Jak Knight's Devon. In a shocking and heartbreaking announcement, Big Mouth took to its official Twitter page on July 17, 2022, to say that the talented and much-loved voice actor had passed away. Fans were utterly devastated by the tweet.

Release Date

Like the cast, the release date for the sixth season has yet to be officially announced, so it is pure speculation at this point. The past five seasons have been released pretty consistently, about 11 months apart. From this, it can be deduced that fans can expect season six in October 2022, give or take a few months. The fifth season didn't end on any major cliffhangers, so fans shouldn't be ridiculously anxious for the show's return. Often, Netflix keeps fans waiting for the newest season of their favorite shows, such as the fourth season of Stranger Things.

For Big Mouth fans, however, it seems like the wait isn't nearly as long, and hopefully, this will be the case for the next season and any following seasons going forward. As of now, there are no delays or hiccups in production, meaning the show will likely return sooner rather than later. Big Mouth was actually renewed through season six after the third season aired, and Netflix has been keeping up with the demand of fans ever since. Most shows have a minimum of a year in-between seasons, but Big Mouth keeps the laughs coming.

As mentioned previously, Big Mouth is so popular it was actually renewed through season six back in 2019. In April 2022, creators Nick Kroll, Andrew Goldberg, Mark Levin, and Jennifer Flackett announced during an FYC Emmy panel in Hollywood that Big Mouth has been renewed for a seventh season, while its spin-off Human Resources has been greenlit for a second installment.

The spin-off show is a workplace comedy of sorts about the hormone monsters and their coworkers. Nick Kroll and Maya Rudolph take up roles in the show, with Randall Park (who is also appearing in the Netflix show The Last Blockbuster) and Keke Palmer joining the line-up.

Much to the delight of fans, Big Mouth's official social media publicized in early July that Maya Rudolph had been nominated for an Emmy Award for her character voice-over performance as Connie the Hormone Monstress. Not much else is known about the newly announced second installment, but fans can rest assured it will be filled with the same humor and talent as Big Mouth has.
