After taking nearly a decade off, director Jean-Pierre Jeunet of Amélie, Delicatessen and 2013's The Young and Prodigious T. S. Spivet, is bringing his new film to Netflix. The trailer for the sci-fi comedy Big Bug shows us what we've all been waiting for. The Jetsons meet suburbia! Who does the dishes? Not us! Where do we find that ever loyal companion? Just place an order! Everything is solved by the click of a button. Or is it?
The official synopsis reads: "In 2050, artificial intelligence is everywhere. So much so that humanity relies on it to satisfy its every need and every desire – even the most secret and wicked… In a quiet residential area, four domestic robots suddenly decide to take their masters hostage in their own home. Locked together, a not-quite-so-blended family, an intrusive neighbour and her enterprising sex-robot are now forced to put up with each other in an increasingly hysterical atmosphere! While, outside, the Yonyx, the latest generation of androids, are trying to take over. As the threat draws closer, the humans look elsewhere, get jealous, and rip into each other under the bewildered eyes of their indoor robots. Maybe it’s the robots who’ve got a soul – or not!"
The trailer does not disappoint. The film stars Dominique Pinon (Delicatessen, Amélie) Elsa Zylberstein, Isabelle Nanty, Youssef Hajdi, Alban Lenoir and François Levantal. The mixture of eye candy, humanity, comedy, tragedy and an unconventional story is what we've come to expect from the unique director. While there were mixed reviews for Alien: Resurrection, when Jeunet is paired with the right story, he amazes.

If you missed the Coen brothers uncredited-spin off, directed, written by and starring John Turturro, it follows a trio of misfits whose irreverent, sexually charged dynamic evolves into a surprising love story as their spontaneous and flippant attitude towards the past or future backfires time and again. A-listers lined up to be a part, including Bobby Cannavale, Audrey Tautou, Susan Sarandon, Pete Davidson, Jon Hamm, J.B. Smoove, Christopher Walken, Sable Boykin, Tim Blake Nelson.
Big Bug looks like it might be another classic for Jean-Pierre Jeunet. Surrounded by artificial intelligence, the humans are celebrated for all the things that make us human. Humans have ceded most tasks to AI in 2045, even in nostalgic Alice's home. So when robots stage a coup, her androids protectively lock her doors. Look for the sci-fi comedy Big Bug exclusively on Netflix on February 11.
