It is indeed a most excellent day to be a Bill & Ted fan, as the first photos from Bill & Ted 3, officially titled Bill & Ted Face the Music, have arrived. This is a movie that has been kicking around for years now, but the timing never lined up and it never actually got made. Until now, that is. These first-look photos offer proof that both Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have reunited to bring the Wyld Stallyns back on stage.

The first photo should make fans rather happy, as both Bill and Ted are in a phone booth together. They're looking shocked at something off-screen that we can't see, but this looks like classic Bill and Ted, but they're both grown ups now. Another photo that offers a nice blast from the past reunites the duo with their old friend Death, played once again by William Sadler. Lastly, we have a photo that shows us Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Bill's daughter, Thea, and Brigette Lundy-Paine (Atypical) as Ted's daughter, Billie. Co-writer Chris Matheson had this to say, in terms of what to expect from the plot this time around.

"They were told when they were teenagers that they were going to save reality, and they've been working on it the whole time. Now an emissary from the future comes and says, 'You've got to do it right now. We've got literally 80 minutes or all of reality will come to an end.'"

The photo with Thea and Billie also features rapper Kid Cudi who looks, well, like Kid Cudi. And there's a good reason for that. Per director Dean Parisot, the musician is playing himself as he "gets mysteriously thrown around through various times, because all time and space is coming unglued." How, precisely he factors into the plot remains to be seen. When it comes to Thea and Billie, they're hoping to help their dads, according to Chris Matheson.

"The daughters really love their dads' music and want to help them."

Alex Winter and Keanu Reeves are officially back together after several decades apart on the big screen. Keanu Reeves has had something of a career renaissance as of late, largely thanks to the John Wick franchise. Alex Winter, meanwhile, has spent more time behind the camera directing documentaries. So, was he nervous about putting himself back on screen? Not at all.

"If I was going back into doing fricking King Lear, then I would have been wetting my nappies. But I do know this guy pretty well."

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure was originally released in 1989 and went on to become a modest hit. A sequel, Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, was released in 1991. Both movies have gone on to achieve cult status in the years since. Bill & Ted Face the Music is set to hit theaters on August 21, 2020. With any luck, we'll get a teaser trailer sooner rather than later. Be sure to check out the new photos below. This news comes to us via Entertainment Weekly.
