Garfield: According to Variety, Bill Murray has signed on to voice Garfield the Cat in the upcoming film for 20th Century Fox.
The movie, based on the comic strip, features a sardonic cat who must tolerate the indignity of being saddled with a nebbish owner (Breckin Meyer of Road Trip) and a nitwit dog as housemates.
Drawn by Jim Davis of Muncie, Indiana, Garfield marks its 25th anniversary on June 19, having debuted in 1978 in 41 U.S. newspapers. Today it is one of the most widely syndicated strips in the world, appearing in 2,570 newspapers in 111 countries.
Helmer Peter Hewitt directs the live-action/CGI adaptation, which was penned by writers Joel Cohen and Alec Sokolow. The lovely Jennifer Love Hewitt also stars.
