In the history of cinema, there have been fewer speeches more rousing than that made by Bill Pullmans' president before the final act of 1996 alien invasion blockbuster Independence Day. Now, just days ahead of the movie's 25th anniversary, the "America's favorite former President" is back with another emotionally driving monologue, presented in association with Budweiser and aimed at making sure those who are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19 do so at the first opportunity to help get things back to normal this Independence Day.

The ad sees Bill Pullman step up to a podium and deliver a revised update of the speech that was originally meant to rally ordinary people to fight for survival against a deadly alien invasion. This time, he is doing it to make people rally against a deadly virus, and potentially to sell a few beers in the process.

"In less than a week we hope to fire up our grills, and launch one of the biggest fourth of July celebrations in the history of the United States," Pullman says. "The United States, those words have new meaning for us all today, and whether you drive a pick-up or a hybrid, you live in the heartland or on the coast, or whether you pronounce it America or 'murica, we're all Americans, seldom on the same page but reading from the same book, on holidays anyway. Perhaps it's fate that this 4th of July we've gotta once again come together to lend a hand to those less fortunate whose fate still lies in the balance. We're fighting for freedom for all, not from alien invaders, from separation, from being cooped up while baking bread and ignoring basic hygiene."

"The time has come for us to get fresh, gather the crew, and eat veggie and meat burgers 'til we sweat, and then let's work together towards a future where everyone can come to the party. And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday but as the day when the world declared in one voice, we will not go quietly into the night, we will fill the sky with so much light and freedom this thing will rue the day it ever messed with us. Together, we celebrate our Independence Day.

With many parts of the world just starting to fully open up again, it is as good a time as any to celebrate freedom from the quarantines and restrictive measures that have been in place in some areas for over 15 months. While there are still uncertainties about how the next few months will pan out, the vaccination program has seen many of the restrictions around numbers of people being able to meet lifted and almost all sporting events along with movie and TV productions return to something close to normal, even if it is with the inclusion of protective face-wear and frequent Covid19 testing. If the words of Bill Pullman can keep that momentum going, then there is no better way to celebrate this Independence Day (2021). And join the fight to keep the world open.
