Where is Bill & Ted 3? It's the sequel we keep hearing about, but it's not any closer to happening than the last time either stars Alex Winter or Keanu Reeves felt like talking about it. The sequel does have a studio backing it, so Keanu Reeves insists that it will happen someday. But when? That's a question he doesn't have an answer for.

He does know what's taking so long, though. And that's perfecting the story. The movie will not move forward until the story is just right. And that takes time. Just look at an anticipated sequel like Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While its production time of three years seems like a long wait for fans, it was actually hurried through the process. And now, many fans have a lot of different gripes with it. The Bill & Ted 3 team is taking their time, so that doesn't happen.

Keanu Reeves offered this latest update to IGN. In the past, the actor who plays Ted, has constantly claimed over and over again that Bill & Ted 3 is 'closer, but not closer'. And he admits that idealism is still true. Though, there's more hope than there ever was before. Fans just need to be patient.

"That's still true - we're closer and we're not closer. We're expecting another draft and hopefully we'll get closer. We're just trying to get the script together. We're trying to get the story right. We're working with this studio so we have a little bit of support, in a sense of like if the material comes through we'll try and make this picture. We're really just still trying to get the story right."

Keanu Reeves says that he and co-star Alex Winter, who have remained best friends since making the original time travel comedy in the late 80s, are still quite enthusiastic about reprising these two hard-rocking dimwits. And they love the concept that they are currently writing their script around. The story follows Bill and Ted through their midlife crisis. They still haven't written the song that brings Peace and Harmony to the world. It sounds like the creative team behind the movie are facing a similar problem. As Keanu Reeves explains it, both the writers and the characters are all taking their time with "the actualization of that concept."

Keanu Reeves doesn't say which studio he's working with on the sequel. And it has never been given a release date. While we won't see the return of Ted Logan anytime soon, the actor is working on a decidedly different sequel, currently shooting John Wick: Chapter 2 on location in Rome. This follow-up to the 2014 cult hit John Wick will be in theaters just in time for Valentine's Day 2017.
