Harley Quinn and Mr. J are no more. The Birds of Prey opening sequence separates itself from 2016's Suicide Squad right from the start. DC fans at CCXP in Brazil were treated to the first few minutes from the upcoming highly anticipated superhero adventure, which stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Robbie was on hand at the event, along with other members of the cast, to deliver the first bit of substantial footage.

According to sources who attended CCXP, Birds of Prey begins with the breakup of Joker and Harley Quinn. It is Jared Leto's version of the iconic villain, but the actor is not shown and is only implied. Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn narrates the opening minutes of the movie, which then shows the character being thrown on the streets. This scene was hinted at back when some set images leaked on to social media, when the movie was in production. So far, the reaction seems to be mostly positive from the new footage shown.

After getting thrown out by the Joker, Harley Quinn gets her own place and acquires her famous hyenas. The character then heads over to Ace Chemicals, which is where she met Mr. J, and blows it up. Birds of Prey starts with a bang and prepares DC fans for a pretty unhinged storyline. In addition, Ewan McGregor's Black Mask was introduced at CCXP. According to Margot Robbie, the movie is "crazy unpredictable - as you can expect." The footage and recent posters for Birds of Prey do make it seem like anything goes with the upcoming R-rated look at Quinn and her new pals.

Along with Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, Ella Jay Basco, and director Birds of Prey director Cathy Yan were all on hand to deliver the opening sequence at CCXP. The movie is set to introduce Black Canary (Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Winstead), and Renee Montoya (Perez). They all team up with Harley Quinn to go up against Black Mask, who is played by Ewan McGregor. Expectations for the movie are pretty high after Robbie's portrayal of the character in 2016's Suicide Squad. Robbie took a character who wasn't super well-known outside of comic book readers and Batman: The Animated Series fans and made her a pop culture explosion.

Now, Margot Robbie is returning as Harley Quinn in both Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. James Gunn is currently in the middle of shooting the follow up to 2016's Suicide Squad, along with Robbie and a huge cast of new characters. Birds of Prey aims to take things to another level and separate itself from the rest of the comic book movies out there. "Behind every successful man there's a bad-ass broad," says Quinn in the opening sequence first shown at CCXP. Deadline was the first to report on the Birds of Prey opening sequence.
