In February 2020 we will be hit with director Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Huntress. And today we have word that Star Wars and Trainspotting star Ewan McGregor's take on infamous DC villain Black Mask in the film is not only a great villain but the best in the DC Extended Universe thus far and one of the best villains in a superhero movie ever. Those are some bold statements, I know!

Specifically, SuperBroMovies writer Daniel Richtman tweets this.

"I hear Black Mask in Birds of Prey is "A great, GREAT villain. The best in the DCEU so far and one of the best villains in a superhero movie ever" so that's good!"

Now while we can't obviously take Richtman's words as gold at this point in time, it's not hard to see Ewan McGregor as Black Mask being this badass once the movie finally hits. I mean, I don't know about you, but this here movie fan thinks of McGregor as one of Hollywood's most talented leading men. In fact, I recently had the privilege to meet the man, and I can say the Obi-Wan actor is just as charming in real life as he is up on the big screen. Here's hoping that charm carries over into his Black Mask role in Birds of Prey.

On a side note, for fellow fans of McGregor, there is some further good news as the man will be gracing a screen near us soon in The Haunting of Hill House and Gerald's Game writer-director Mike Flanagan's upcoming adaptation of Stephen King's The Shining sequel Doctor Sleep. That movie will be upon us this November, and the trailer sure seems to suggest it will be a must-see new masterpiece.

Meanwhile, Birds of Prey will be hitting a theater near you in February 2020. As mentioned above, the movie will feature Ewan McGregor as the film's villain Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Margot Robbie will join him as Harleen Quinzel / Harley Quinn, Jurnee Smollett-Bell as Black Canary, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Helena Bertinelli / Huntress. Rosie Perez joins the cast as Renee Montoya along with Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Vixen, Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, and Chris Messina as Victor Zsasz. Charlene Amoia also stars as Maria Bertinelli, along with Talon Reid, Steven Williams, Derek Wilson, Dana Lee, François Chau, Matthew Willig, Robert Catrini, and Ali Wong.

According to My Mother and Dead Pigs director Cathy Yan takes the helm of this new Harley Quinn adventure from a screenplay written by Christina Hodson based on the comic team up created by Jordan B. Gorfinkel and Chuck Dixon. Margot Robbie produces the movie along with Sue Kroll and Bryan Unkeless. DC Films, LuckyChap Entertainment, Kroll & Co. Entertainment and Clubhouse Pictures are the production companies behind the new $75 million movie which will be distributed into a theater near you by Warner Bros. Pictures on February 7, 2020.
