Birds of Prey recently wrapped production and we have a new look at Harley Quinn. Margot Robbie's portrayal of Quinn in 2016's Suicide Squad brought the character to the mainstream, even though she had been a comic book-favorite for a long time. Robbie has been pretty open about her dislike of the skimpy outfit she had to wear the first time playing Quinn, so she has taken the character in a radical new direction.
The new Harley Quinn look for Birds of Prey is something else. Margot Robbie is wearing a tiny pink top with a gold overalls/jump suit, which is unzipped. Two small pigtails are on top pf Robbie's head, one with dashes of blue and the other with hints of pink. In other words, it's perfectly Harley Quinn. Robbie and costume designer Erin Benach went out of their way to bring a new look to the character while still retaining what makes her so special.
Margot Robbie's take on Harley Quinn was arguably one of the only redeeming qualities about Suicide Squad and DC fans are excited to see what the actress does with the character next. As for showing up in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad, it is believed she will join the production when cameras start rolling this fall. However, that has yet to be confirmed at this time and Gunn is keeping his mouth shut. With Warner Bros. skipping out on San Diego Comic-Con this year, we're missing out on some information about the upcoming DC project slate, which obviously includes Birds of Prey too.
Birds of Prey will be an R-rated affair as Margot Robbie recently revealed. The actress feels like a lower rating led by a female cast wouldn't be taken as seriously. Robbie actually called the idea of a PG-rated version of the action movie a "chick flick," which is something she and her LuckyChap production company are looking to avoid at all costs. Luckily, Robbie's Quinn already has a solid following and there are many DC fans who are looking forward to seeing what the actress was able to do after having more input on the project.
Birds of Prey is all set to hit theaters on February 7th, 2020. Next up for the studio is Todd Phillips' Joker, which is about to give comic book fans a unique take on the Clown Prince of Crime. Joaquin Phoenix takes on the lead role and many are wondering just exactly how it will all pan out. As for Jared Leto returning in the future to the role, that looks doubtful at the moment, though he could come back under the right circumstances.
