The latest trailer for Black Adam finds Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson carry out his own sense of truth, justice, and all that other stuff. Released as part of San Diego Comic-Con 2022, the newest footage from Black Adam further teases The Rock’s debut as the DC antihero, who is imbued with superpowers courtesy of the ancient wizard Shazam.

Black Adam will find Johnson’s DC hero straddling the line between hero and villain as he faces down the Justice Society of America. A team of superheroes, the JSA is made up of One Night in Miami star Aldis Hodge, who leads the group as Carter Hall AKA Hawkman. An archaeologist who discovers that he is the reincarnation of an Egyptian prince, Hawkman has the power of flight from his stunning metal wings, and is a great and proficient warrior. In Treatment star Quintessa Swindell meanwhile stars as Maxine Hunkel AKA Cyclone, the granddaughter of former hero Red Tornado, who can control wind and generate sound, with To All the Boys I've Loved Before actor Noah Centineo starring as Albert "Al" Rothstein AKA Atom Smasher, who can control his molecular structure and manipulate his size and strength.

Finally, James Bond star Pierce Brosnan will join the pantheon of superheroes as Kent Nelson AKA Doctor Fate. A member of the JSA and the son of an archaeologist, Nelson was taught the ways of sorcery and was given the magical Helmet of Fate.

Black Adam will introduce audiences to Teth-Adam who, nearly 5,000 years after he was bestowed with the almighty powers of the ancient gods, and imprisoned just as quickly, is freed from his earthly tomb, ready to unleash his unique form of justice on the modern world. Known as Black Adam, he is chosen the wizard Shazam to harness the powers of the ancient Egyptian gods and is thus gifted a set of powers that includes the stamina of Shu, the swiftness of Horus, the strength of Amon, the wisdom of Zehuti, the power of Aten, and the courage of Mehen.

Bringing the tale of Black Adam to the silver screen is something that Dwayne Johnson has wanted to do for some time. The actor has since declared his commitment to the role, and recently hinted at many more adventures to come. “The whole goal was that our film was going to set off a larger universe, where we were able to introduce the JSA and then also build from there,” Johnson explained. “If audiences respond to these characters—which we believed that they would, and now we see that they do—we want to honor their mythologies and build out their stories on their own in terms of spin-offs, movies, TV shows, and things like that. That was always important.”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Adam Sztykiel, Rory Haines, and Sohrab Noshirvani, Black Adam is scheduled to be released in the United States on October 21, 2022.
