The Rock's Black Adam movie could film next year, if all goes well. The actor has been attached to the role for years now, really even before the DC universe as we know it took shape. Originally, Dwayne Johnson was supposed to appear in the Shazam movie, given that Black Adam is his arch nemesis. However, Warner Bros. and DC decided to give the villain his own movie, which we've been waiting on for a while now. But according to Johnson, we may not be waiting that much longer.

While promoting his latest movie Rampage, Dwayne Johnson was asked about the status of the Black Adam solo movie. While not able to give any firm confirmation, he said that the script recently came in and that puts them in a good place to possibly go into production in 2019. There are a lot of moving parts, but he seems optimistic. Here's what he had to say about it.

"The script came in, it's great, we're working on it. If things come together in the way we anticipate them coming together, that feels like a 2019 movie in production... Black Adam, It's this phenomenal opportunity for us to nail the tone and make sure he's badass. Also, we have intrinsic DNA tied to a lot of other properties in DC. It's not an easy thing to do, but I think we're gonna nail it. Fingers crossed. Tell all of the Black Adam fans out there that it's looking like 2019. "

Following the disappointment of Justice League, the future of the DC live-action movie slate at Warner Bros. became very uncertain. Right now, Shazam is in production and will arrive in April of 2019. Beyond that, Wonder Woman 2 and Suicide Squad 2 are the only movies that haven't filmed yet that are a guarantee. Dwayne Johnson also, very diplomatically, discussed the challenges DC is facing, as Marvel continues to dominate and Warner Bros. is still trying to find their footing with the DCEU.

"It's a challenging thing because when Marvel is doing such an incredible job of universe building out, and DC is doing a great job finding the footing and tone of their movies. Certainly with like, Wonder Woman for example. I look forward to James Wan's movie that's coming out with Aquaman."

Last we heard, Undateable creator Adam Sztykiel was working on the script for Black Adam. There was also some interesting social media activity indicating that The Rock had met with IT director Andy Muschietti for an upcoming project, but there's no true indication that it was for Black Adam. There are a few factors to think about with this. One, Dwayne Johnson has a ton of projects on his plate, so it may be hard to truly fit Black Adam in there. Also, why make this movie if Shazam doesn't do well? So the fate of this DC movie could very well depend on how well Shazam does at the box office next year. At least for now, Black Adam isn't dead though. This news comes to us courtesy of Yahoo.
