Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is set to hit the theaters in a week. The first reactions of the film are praising Johnson for his take on the character, which he has wished to portray for years. Earlier, Johnson was supposed to play the character in Shazam! (2019); however he lobbied for Black Adam to be a separate film.

Fans have speculated and wished for Black Adam and Shazam to live their rivalry in the live-action DC Extended Universe. Even both Johnson and Shazam actor Zachary Levi joked about “punching each other” on-screen. Though there are no immediate plans for the crossover to happen, Dwayne Johnson has recently given his assurance that fans will eventually get to see the two wizardly powerful superbeings clash.

In an interview shared by @AjepArts (via The Direct), Dwayne Johnson talked about crossing over with Shazam in a potential future project. Johnson revealed that it was out of his respect for both characters that led him to levy two different projects for the two characters. He said,

It was just a mosh of 'just put them both together because they're both connected.' So that's when I said 'you can't do it like this, we have to respect Shazam and his origin story, that has to be its own movie. Respect Black Adam, this has to be its own movie. Build them up, and then you can do this.'

He later promised that the two characters will surely meet in the future and that the hopes for a crossover are going to happen.

Black Adam Bringing an Epic Showdown to DC Multiverse

Black Adam Trailer SDCC
Warner Bros. Pictures

Black Adam is being said as the most epic showdown in the DCEU, with Johnson proclaiming it as the hierarchical change in the multiverse. The film will bring the wrath of Tet-Adam to the modern world while the Justice Society of America takes on him. The film however will change courses to take down a common enemy and Black Adam will have to join hands with the JSA.

The film is an integral part of the DCEU, as it is going to feature elements from previous films like Suicide Squad, Shazam!, and possibly Justice League. Black Adam is an anti-hero-cum-antagonist in the comics and his villainous side is yet to be revealed. There are also hopes that Black Adam will fight Superman and his archnemesis Shazam from the comics. That alone put up ideas for potential crossover films set in the DCEU for the future. After starring in his own movie, there is a possibility that the character would show up to rival other members of the Justice League or may form a reunion with them to take on some other en enemy.

Either way, the character would bring a massive change to the franchise. Johnson has revealed that he has plans to continue the DCEU after Black Adam and hence there are chances that he could take an executive role in future DCEU projects just as he has done with Shazam and Black Adam.

Black Adam hits theaters on October 21.
