Patience is a virtue, but rest easy knowing there is more Black Mirror on the way. Netflix on Monday announced that its utterly addictive, Emmy Award-winning anthology series has been renewed for a much-anticipated Season 5.

In the meantime, anyone with a Netflix account can reflect on Black Mirror Seasons 1-4, all streaming now on Netflix, and stay tuned for more. Black Mirror is an anthology series that taps into our collective unease with the modern world, with each stand-alone episode a sharp, suspenseful tale exploring themes of contemporary techno-paranoia leading to an unforgettable, and sometimes unsettling, conclusion. Without questioning it, technology has transformed all aspects of our lives; in every home; on every desk; in every palm, a plasma screen; a monitor; a Smartphone, a Black Mirror reflecting our 21st Century existence back at us. The series is created and written by Charlie Brooker, and executive produced by Brooker and Annabel Jones.

Season 4 was a big run of important episodes for the series, and took things in a whole new direction. Producer Annabel Jones had previously revealed that, "This season has a lot of firsts for Black Mirror!" Among the firsts for Black Mirror in Season 4 was the first black and white episode, with Metalhead. The first space episode with the critically acclaimed Star Trek inspired story U.S.S. Callister, which took virtual reality to new ground. And the first American indie set in working-class East Coast America, directed by Jodie Foster with the episode Arkangel.

Starting with Season 4, which was released late last year, it was confirmed that all of the Black Mirror episodes take place in the same universe. At the same time, these stories are completely self contained and offer a definitive ending each time, so you can watch in any order, or as many as you want to binge at any given time. U.S.S. Callister was a little different in that respect, as it left its story open-ended and it has been confirmed that a spin-off is being discussed.

Season 4 also broke new ground in that every single episode of the year had a female lead. The six separate episodes each explored a different genre with a woman at the forefront of the story telling. With production just getting started on Season 5, none of the episodes have been discussed. And it isn't known what type of direction things will go in this time around. Or if the series will continue its female lead motif that has been set up. You can check out the entirety of Black Mirror streaming exclusively on Netflix. Netflix has also launched a video announcement for the return of the series which you can check out here. The first trailer is not expected for several more months, so the wait is going to be excruciating.
