Marvel's Black Panther has been making all sorts of headlines since debuting in theaters on Ferbruary 16, but perhaps none as bizarre as this one. Earlier this week, a Twitter post went viral, featuring the Tumblr page of an orthodontist, who shared a story about a patient who, during the Black Panther scene where Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan) takes his shirt off, clenched her teeth so hard she snapped the steel wire on her retainer. Here's the orthodontist's Tumblr post below.

"One of my patients came in for an emergency visit, because she snapped the wire on her retainer watching the movie when MBJ took his shirt off she clenched her teeth so f---ing hard she snapped it. that is the f---ing funniest shit ever to me this tiny 17 year old girl thirsting so goddamn hard she busted steel."

While the orthodontist never identified the patient, Twitter user @pixyrue, a young San Francisco woman named Sophia, who is actually 18 years of age, revealed on Twitter this past Monday that the story was from her orthodontist's Tumblr page, and that the story was about her. Sophia's tweet went viral, with over 515K likes and 135K retweets to date, which lead to the young woman being interviewed by Teen Vogue, BuzzFeed, where she revealed that the retainer incident happened towards the end of Black Panther, where Erik Killmonger took his shirt off to challenge T'challa (Chadwick Boseman) for the Wakandan throne. After fielding numerous tweets from everything about her retainer, to her race (Sophia is mixed race with a black mother and white father), yesterday, Michael B. Jordan himself followed her on Twitter, before sending out this tweet to Sophia.

"Since I feel partly responsible for breaking your retainers let me know if I can replace them."

She also told Buzzfeed that she was horrified about going to the orthodontist originally, and while she admitted that, "When I told them they laughed, obviously, but it was super sweet and of course it made a great story." The orthodontist even had to defend himself since some claimed he violated his patient's confidentiality, although he didn't reveal anything about her, except her age, which in fact was the wrong age, and it was Sophia herself who confirmed her own identity on Twitter, and not the orthodontist. She also defended the orthodontist in several other tweets, stating that she will continue seeing him as her orthodontist.

Sophia revealed in another interview that after Michael B. Jordan started following her on Twitter, she sent him a direct message telling him, "It was an honor to have my retainer broken by your image. Keep doing what you're doing." The actor offered to pay for the retainer replacement, but she told him that her insurance already took care of it, although she added that, "if you're ever in the (California) Bay area, you and my orthodontist should take a photo over it," to which he responded, "totally." While we wait to see if that photo will ever happen, take a look at the original Tumblr post below, along with several of the tweets from PixyRue Twitter over the past few days.
