Following the release of the first trailer for the highly anticipated Marvel sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, an official synopsis and a new poster have now been revealed. The synopsis offers further insight into the direction of the Black Panther follow-up, while the poster puts those closest to T’Challa at its center.

"In Marvel Studios’ 'Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,' Queen Ramonda (Angela Bassett), Shuri (Letitia Wright), M’Baku (Winston Duke), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and the Dora Milaje (including Florence Kasumba), fight to protect their nation from intervening world powers in the wake of King T’Challa’s death. As the Wakandans strive to embrace their next chapter, the heroes must band together with the help of War Dog Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) and Everett Ross (Martin Freeman) and forge a new path for the kingdom of Wakanda."

As expected, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will mirror the tragic death of actor Chadwick Boseman, with T’Challa having passed away before the events of the sequel began. This huge loss will find the likes of Angela Bassett’s Queen Ramonda, Letitia Wright’s Shuri, and Lupita Nyong’o’s Nakia, and Wakanda as a whole, struggling with grief and what is best for their nation. Fittingly, these three characters are given the spotlight in a new poster for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, which was spotted by DiscussingFilm at San Diego Comic-Con.

Directed by Ryan Coogler, who co-wrote the screenplay with Joe Robert Cole, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will see several stars reprise their roles from the first outing, including Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, Florence Kasumba, Martin Freeman, and Angela Bassett.

While not mentioned in the synopsis, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will introduce several new characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Dominique Thorne will make her debut as Riri Williams AKA Ironheart, a genius inventor who creates a suit of armor similar to the one built by Tony Stark, with Michaela Coel starring as Aneka, a prominent member of the Dora Milaje – the elite group of warriors who serve as the all-female special forces for Wakanda.

Namor Will Make His MCU Debut in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

Black Panther 2 Trailer - Namor
Marvel Studios

If that were not already enough, it is now confirmed that Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will mark the MCU debut of Namor the Submariner. Played by Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta, and sporing the green trunks, pointy ears, and winged-ankles that will be familiar to fans of the character, the trailer suggests that Namor will be the main villain of the Black Panther sequel, as he emerges from his underwater kingdom of Atlantis to wage war on Wakanda.

While the newly released footage from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever manages to maintain a lot of the mystery, several rumors and leaks have potentially revealed more about Namor’s role in the movie, as well as who will take over as both king of Wakanda and the new Black Panther.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is scheduled to be released in the United States on November 11, 2022, and will be the final installment in Phase Four of the MCU.
