Did Chris Evans just confirm the Black Widow movie? Marvel fans have been begging for Scarlett Johannson to get her own Black Widow movie for a very long time and, officially speaking, it still hasn't happened. Kevin Feige and everyone at Marvel Studios is keeping their lips sealed, but the movie is reportedly being actively developed right now and could potentially be ready to go as one of the early Phase 4 Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Now, it looks like Johansson's MCU co-star Chris Evans has confirmed the Black Widow movie in a new interview.
Chris Evans, who plays Captain America in the MCU and will be rocking the Nomad persona from the comics in Avengers: Infinity War this summer, was recently interviewed in honor of Black Panther arriving in theaters. Like many others around the world, Evans was singing the movie's praises. He speaks a bit about Marvel in more broad terms, saying that the studio can do just about anything. During this little stream of consciousness is when he lets the Black Widow bit slip. Here's what he had to say about it.
"There's nothing Marvel can't do, and I'm sure it's gonna have the exact same effect when Captain Marvel comes out, and then the Black Widow movie comes out. Marvel just has the winning recipe and they're kind of one step ahead of everybody else...Marvel knows what they're doing. They find just great people. I just feel very humbled and lucky to be a part of it."
Captain Marvel is currently in production and is set to arrive in theaters next year and that movie has been confirmed for quite some time. Black Widow, on the other hand, might be the worst kept secret in Hollywood right now, but it's not been confirmed by Marvel Studios. That said, it was recently reported that Jac Schaeffer has been hired to pen the script for the Black Widow movie, with Scarlett Johansson working very closely on the project as well.
It's also been reported that Johansson will receive a record-breaking payday of up to $31 million for her work on the movie, which she's going to produce as well as star in. As far as Chris Evans goes, he's almost certainly not going to be involved in the Black Widow movie in any capacity, but he's one of the core actors in the MCU and would likely know if such a movie were actually going to happen. He probably wasn't trying to let it slip, but with the news of the movie floating around online lately, Evans may have just figured that the project is official and didn't feel as though it's a secret at this point.
Kevin Feige isn't just being stubborn. He's made it clear they won't announce any movies beyond Avengers 4 until the time is right. Given that much of what will happen in the next two Avengers movies is unknown and will reshape the MCU as we know, there's a good reason for that. Even knowing some of the movie titles coming in Phase 4 could provide spoilers. In any case, it sounds more and more like Black Widow is finally going to get her day in the sun.
