After three popular seasons, NBC is doubling down on The Blacklist, with a proposed Untitled Blacklist Spinoff series that will first debut as a regular Season 3 episode. Deadline reports that the cast is coming together, with original The Blacklist star Ryan Eggold in the male lead, reprising his role as covert operative Tom Keen, a.k.a. Jacob Phillips. In the event that the spinoff isn't ordered to series, the actor will return to his duties on the flagship show.

The spinoff will debut on May 12 as a Season 3 episode of The Blacklist that reportedly focuses on the relationship between Tom Keen/Jacob Phillips and the series' lead, Susan "Scottie" Halstead (Famke Janssen). This relationship is said to be similar to the Red (James Spader) and Liz's (Megan Boone) dynamic in the original series, with Scottie acting as Tom's handler. If the spinoff moves forward, then there will likely be plenty of crossover opportunities for both Ryan Eggold and Famke Janssen on The Blacklist.

They will be joined by Edi Gathegi, who recurs on the flagship show as Matias Solomon, along with new cast member, Tawny Cypress. Famke Janssen's Scottie Halstead will first be introduced on the May 5 episode of The Blacklist before the spinoff episode. NBC has been quite successful with spinoffs over the past few years, a formula they hope to replicate with The Blacklist.

NBC has turned the drama series Chicago Fire into a Chicago franchise, with hit spinoffs Chicago P.D. debuting in 2015 and Chicago Med arriving earlier this year. The network has already renewed all three shows for the 2016-2017 TV season, and they are already working on another series, Chicago Justice. The Blacklist has dipped in the ratings a bit since being moved from Monday nights at 10 PM to Thursdays at 9 PM, but the show is still performing admirably, earning a fourth season pickup.

The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp co-created the Untitled Blacklist Spinoff with John Eisendrath, who serves as executive producer on the flagship series. The creators will also executive produce alongside John Davis and John Fox. Are you looking forward to Ryan Eggold starring in the Untitled Blacklist Spinoff?
