While some hurdles do still remain for the Blu-Ray format's success, a recent report indicates that mass-adoption of the format may come fairly soon. The Entertainment Merchants Association released its annual report at the EMA's annual Home Media Expo, which runs from June 24 to June 28 in Las Vegas. Among the findings in the report was an item that predicted Blu-Ray discs will outsell standard DVD discs by the year 2012.

The report also predicted that BD sales will reach $9.5 billion by 2012, drastically up from 2007's sales revenue of $260 million. It was also stated that overall spending in home video, both sales and rentals, will reach $25.6 billion in 2012, up from a total of $24.1 billion in 2007.

It was also noted in the report that traditional rental outlets, headed by Blockbuster, accounted for 73% of the rentals in 2007, with online outlets like Netflix and Blockbuster Online accounting for 23% and kiosk rentals taking the additional 2%, with kiosks doubling from last year.
