All three Blue’s Clues detectives – as loyal viewers are already aware, that’s Steve (Steve Burns), Joe (Donovan Patton), and Josh (Joshua Dela Cruz) – will be appearing alongside one another in the upcoming Paramount+ Blue’s Clues movie adaptation!Blue’s Clues initially premiered on Nickelodeon in 1996, and it featured Steve as the host. Steve lived in a cute yellow house with his puppy, Blue, and together, they invited the viewer inside their home to spend a half-hour (with opening the mail being a highlight of any visit). But inevitably, this would lead to a mystery that had to be solved, with clues identifiable by the fact that they had been imprinted with a blue-colored paw print by (who else) Blue.In 2002, Steve “left for college,” and the fictional detective ceded the position of the host to his brother, Joe. In the early days of the internet, dark rumors about the departure swirled, with some individuals even speculating that Steve had taken his own life. However, the truth is decidedly less grim: Burns felt the need to move on professionally.

Det-Ret. Steve Lives!

Det-Ret. Steve

This fact was confirmed in September 2021, when Burns himself appeared in a video on Twitter that celebrated the 25th anniversary of the debut of Blue’s Clues on Nickelodeon. In the video, Steve addressed the fact that he had left to go to college and, as a result, he and the viewers hadn’t seen each other in “a very long time.” Steve went on to thank the viewers for all the invaluable help they’d given him and to say that he never forgot them, even after all these years (honestly, just try and watch this video without shedding a tear – it isn’t possible).

After Steve left the series in 2002, it ran for another two seasons with Joe as the host before being replaced with a spin-off called Blue’s Room. Then, in 2019, the most recent adaptation of the series appeared on Nickelodeon: Blue’s Clues and You, featuring Josh as the host. In the first episode of that series, all three detectives first appeared together, since Steve and Joe both showed up to wish Josh well on his new journey.

Steve and Joe have both continued to appear as recurring characters in Blue’s Clues and You, with Steve running the Blueprints Detective Agency (get it) and Joe running the Present Store (this one isn’t a pun, but it’s still a cool job).

Little is known about the upcoming movie on Paramount+, not even the title, much less the story. However, the first image from the set features the three detectives side-by-side on a real-world city street – no hand-drawn house here. There’s even a ‘Bux franchise behind them! The upcoming movie will be the second Blue’s Clues movie adaptation, after Blue’s Big Musical Movie went straight-to-VHS in 2000. And note that it’s not the first time we’ve seen synergy between Nickelodeon and Paramount+ lately, with new Star Trek: Prodigy episodes first being released for streaming on Paramount+ before later being broadcast on the Nickelodeon channel.
