Since Lucasfilm's strange lack of new announcements at D23, Star Wars fans across the galaxy have questioned what is next for the franchise. Many of the shows that were announced in 2020 have undergone significant changes or been canceled altogether due to evolving cast members and other problems. With so many exciting shows in production like Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor, we are all curious as to when these shows will become available, and what to look forward to.

The Book of Boba Fett star, Ming-Na Wen, might have accidently dropped a hint on Jan. 13. After The Hashtag Show published an article about a new Bo-Katan series, she tweeted her congrats to actress Katee Sackhoff. Soon afterwards, Wren deleted the tweet, leaving the internet abuzz with rumors of a new Bo-Katan show. The question still remains if Wren took down the tweet because of its accuracy, or because of its inaccuracy. However, Bo-Katan's appearance in The Mandalorian, and Sackhoff's hints at "unfinished business" for the character, suggests that we may see more of the character in shows to come whether she gets to star in her own series or not. It would be a great thing to see, though, so here are some reasons why we hope to see Bo-Katan in her own staring role. Beware of potential spoilers to the Clone Wars series.

Ties to Mandalore

Katee Sackhoff's Clone Wars Character Is Back on Star Wars Rebels

Unlike The Mandalorian and Boba Fett, Bo-Katan Kryze lived the majority of her life on Mandalore itself. Her rich backstory offers insight to multiple Mandalorian civil wars and Star Wars lore. During Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Bo-Katan's older sister, Satine Kryze, ruled Mandalore as a dedicated pacifist. Bo-Katan and other members of Death Watch disagreed with Saltine's rule and wanted to see Mandalore return to its traditional war-waging and militaristic ways.

To beat the pacifists, Death Watch teamed up with Darth Maul and another character. Bo-Katan didn't like this alliance, and she liked it even less when Maul took the darksaber for himself and ruled over Mandalore. Bo-Katan worked closely with Ahsoka Tano to overthrow Maul, and she continued to resist imperial occupation on Mandalore after Maul's defeat.

Whatever the plot of the upcoming series, if it centers on Bo-Katan it will be hard not to include Mandalore. Since we haven't seen the planet in any live actions movies, it would be fun to explore it here. We know that Mandalore is a beautiful place full of rich history and advanced technology thanks to characters we have seen in shows like The Mandalorian, and from visiting the planet in cartoons and video games like Star Wars: The Clone Wars or Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II.

Darksaber

The darksaber is a valuable relic among the Mandalorians. It came into play during The Mandalorian as Bo-Katan tired to get it back from Moff Gideon. Bo-Katan originally received the darksaber from Sabine Wren. During the empire's occupation of Mandalore, Bo-Katan used the darksaber to unite the Mandalorians against the empire. The Mandalorians have a history of numerous civil wars, so the ability to unite various clans together under the darksaber, is a very powerful tool.

Whoever is in possession of the darksaber has the right to rule Mandalore. The unique weapon opens the doors to many political plots, as the most interesting aspects of each character can be revealed as they interact with the darksaber's symbol of power. We don't know what happened to the darksaber after the end of The Mandalorian. A Bo-Katan spin-off series would be the perfect place to tie up these loose ends and delve into a new kind of story.

The battle for Mandalore was a big deal during the Clone Wars. And with the war came heroes like Ashoka and villains like Darth Maul. After the Clone Wars, Bo-Katan continued to form alliances with rebel fighters like Hera Sendula and Ezra Bridger. We can't know for sure if any of these big names will make it into her show, but it's exciting to consider that a Bo-Katan series would have so many options.

Besides the popular characters Bo-Katan has been associated with, she has also been the leader of various Mandalorian groups. This means that she has many Mandalorian allies that we have yet to meet. The opportunity to view never-before-seen Mandalorian warriors would make this show even more compelling.

Katee Sackhoff

Katee Sackhoff is a long-time favorite actress in the sci-fi community. She is most famous for her role as Captain Kara (or Starbuck) in Battlestar Galactica. At first, Sackhoff was only brought on to voice the headstrong character in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Years later, Sackhoff was chosen to bring the cartoon character we love into the live action space, and fans of Sackhoff and Bo-Katan were excited to see them return. The actress brings a strong resolve and patience to Bo-Katan's character, and we would love to see more of the depth that Sackhoff could bring to the character and the perspective that Bo-Katan brings to the franchise.
