Bobby Martinez is getting a biopic made about his life. According to Variety, State Street Pictures producers Bob Teitel and George Tillman are developing a film based on the Mexican-American surfer.

Robert Munic is set to write the screenplay. It will tell the story of how Martinez escaped the gang-ridden streets of Southern California to become a professional surfer and hero to his community. He swept every major amateur surfing tournament in his first year of competition and won the ASP Rookie of the Year honors in his first pro season.

The film does not have a set start date.
