Lava Bear has come aboard to produce The Bodyguard, which will star Chinese action legends Sammo Hung, who is also directing, and Andy Lau.

The story centers on a retired bodyguard (Sammo Hung) who has settled in a corner of China near the borders of Russia and South Korea. The bodyguard befriends a young girl, as he starts to suffer from dementia, but he must spring into action when the girl's father (Andy Lau) falls in with the local crime underground, putting his daughter's life in danger.

Lava Bear's Tory Metzger and David Linde will serve as executive producers, with Andy Lau producing alongside Bill Kong (True Legend), Pui-wah Chan (Firestorm), Ivy Ho (The Accidental Spy).

Here's what Lava Bear's David Linde had to say in a statement.

"It's intrinsic to Lava Bear that we grow where film is growing and to do so with talented filmmakers. To be working with Bill again, not to mention such iconic artists as Sammo Hung and Andy Lau, is simply thrilling."

Producer Bill Kong had this to say in his statement.

"It is great to be working together with David and Andy again. The last time the three of us were together was House of Flying Daggers, and I look forward to coming up with something even more special."

Lava Bear's David Linde has worked with Chinese filmmakers for more than two decades, with previous collaborations including Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Yimou Zhang's Hero and Jet Li's Fearless. Tory Metzger formerly represented Jet Li as a talent agent with CAA.
