We are just over a month away from the premiere of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ and as usual we still know very little about what to expect from the Star Wars and The Mandalorian spin off. There have been a few still images, some teasing comments made by cast and crew and of course a whole galaxy of fan theories, but not much in concrete detail for fans to get excited about. However, Jon Favreau recently provided a bit of an update on the series, including the first glimpse of Boba Fett’s return to Jabba’s palace as he attempts to take over the slimy crime lord’s Tatooine business.

In an interview with Empire, Favreau said, “There is a power vacuum, because Jabba is gone. Jabba was clearly a very strong and imposing leader, who people were very scared of, and who seemed to rule with an iron fist. You pull somebody like that out of the ecosystem of Tatooine -- and Hutt Space in general -- and you have the opportunity that's ripe in the gangster genre. Although Boba Fett is a very experienced bounty hunter, he's not experienced at running a criminal syndicate or managing forces. He's not normally a newcomer. He's an expert as we see him in most areas. But in this case, he's trying to transition to another position."

It is now almost 40 years since Boba Fett was seen to meet his maker in Return of The Jedi, his appearance in The Mandalorian was something fans had not expected just a few years ago but his arrival was one of the many highlights of the series. The announcement that a spin-off series featuring Fett, which is effectively being called The Mandalorian Season 2.5, was on the way brought a wave of excitement.

The Book of Boba Fett is now the only major Star Wars live action series to arrive in 2021 due to Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Mandalrorian’s third season not arriving until 2022, while a number of other series such as Andor and the Ahsoka Tano series will follow after that. The Star Wars universe is still expanding on Disney+, but not as quickly as their Marvel offerings, which seems to be partly down to the rumored issues behind the scenes. If that is the case and LucasFilm can manage to resolve matters quickly, then perhaps they can pick up their output in the coming years.

Earlier this month, as part of Disney+ Day a brand new special was released on the platform that “celebrates the origins and legacy of Star Wars’ legendary bounty hunter, Boba Fett.” Entitled Under The Helmet: The Legacy of Boba Fett, the special is a 21 minute dive into the history of the much loved Star Wars character and for those that haven’t watch, it is well worth a look before The Book of Boba Fett arrives on December 29th. In the long run, there is a lot for Star Wars fans to look forward to as while the studio seems to be struggling on the movie side of things, their TV shows are going from strength to strength.
