Back in September, a new report surfaced claiming Warner Bros. is expanding their DC Extended Universe even more, with a new Blue Beetle and Booster Gold movie. That rumor claimed Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow executive producer Greg Berlanti will direct from a script by Zak Penn (The Avengers). We haven't heard anything concrete about this project since then, but today we have a new report that claims another writer has been brought on, Zack Stentz (X-Men: First Class, Thor, Power Rangers, The Flash).

Zack Stentz recently worked with Greg Berlanti writing last night's episode of The Flash, which was directed by Kevin Smith. Earlier this week, the director brought Zack Stentz on to his Fat Man on Batman podcast, where the writer made a few interesting comments about working on another DC project, in collaboration with Greg Berlanti. A report from Birth.Movies.Death claims that all of these subtle hints line up with information they've heard about Zack Stentz writing a Booster Gold and Blue Beetle movie, although it won't be the same as initially reported.

The project is rumored to be a Booster Gold solo movie, and not the team-up project that was announced earlier this year. In the comics, Booster Gold is a former athlete working as a security guard in the future, who steals a time machine and comes back to our present day to try and strike it rich, using his knowledge from the days yet to come. He eventually becomes best friends with The Blue Beetle, as the pair went on a series of comedic adventures together.

The original report from September claimed that this movie is being pitched as a superhero buddy cop movie, which will be much different than the current lineup in the DCEU. The movie is also said to be a comedy, which is quite surprising since Warner Bros. and DC have implemented a longstanding 'no jokes' rule, providing a stark contrast to the much lighter Marvel Cinematic Universe. In comparison to the MCU, Booster Gold is seen as the Tony Stark of that world, so it will be interesting to see how this project unfolds.

This new report also claims that the movie may be on hold, and it isn't known how far along Zack Stentz is on the Booster Gold script. The mere fact that this movie is in development could signal that the DCEU is undergoing some major changes, to correct their course after Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, which performed well at the box office but was trashed by critics and fans alike. It's also worth noting that, just last month, Warner Bros. announced two more unspecified movies that they're adding to their DCEU release schedule, which arrive on October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. Of course, it hasn't been confirmed if this Booster Gold movie will take one of those dates, but we'll keep you posted as soon as more updates come in. Zack Stentz is currently working on the Top Gun 2 script.
