Matthew McConaughey is attached to star in the adaptation Born to Run from Di Bonaventura Pictures, Outlaw Productions and LD Entertainment. The project is based on Christopher McDougall's 2009 best-selling book Born To Run: A Hidden Tribe, Super Athletes, And The Greatest Race The World Has Never Seen, which has sold 2 million copies in the U.S. alone.

The story centers on an award-winning journalist who teams up with an injury-plagued runner on a journey to the deadly Copper Canyons in Mexico, to learn how the Tarahumara Indians can run hundreds of miles without rest or sustaining injuries, a skill they used to chase down anything from deer to Olympic marathon runners. The journalist begins to learn the secrets of this tribe, as he prepares to take part in a 50-mile race through Tarahumara country against the tribe and a number of American runners, including an ultra-marathoner, a young surfer and another barefoot running prodigy.

The book spent a whopping 178 weeks on the New York Times Best Sellers List, still selling over 10,000 copies a month. It also helped spark the "barefoot running" movement, one of the most innovative fitness movements in decades, and a $2 billion industry of "barefoot-style" running shoes. Matthew Michael Carnahan (World War Z) wrote the screenplay adaptation, with Mickey Liddell, Deborah Jelin Newmyer and Lorenzo di Bonaventura producing, although no director is attached at this time. Matthew McConaughey is coming off hits such as Dallas Buyers Club, The Wolf of Wall Street and Interstellar. He will next be seen in The Sea of Trees and The Free State of Jones.
