When The Brady Bunch house went on market for the first time in nearly four decades, it was heavily rumored that a bidder (some might even say 'Evil Developer') threatened to swoop in and demolish it for new buildings that were being planned. It sounds like a plot right out of, well, The Brady Bunch. Luckily for TV historians and fans of the 70s sitcom, it has been saved from destruction!

NSYNC member Lance Bass thought that he had The Brady Bunch home after submitting his bid, but he soon found out that television network HGTV snuck in and offered $3.5 million for the iconic house, which is $1.6 million over the initial asking price. Bass is, understandably, upset and feels that he was used to drive up the price of the home. The home received eight offers, and contrary to those nasty rumors, none of the bidders really wanted to tear down the house.

HGTV allegedly offered to top any bids for The Brady Bunch home, which is located at 11222 Dilling Street. Discovery Inc. CEO David Zaslav says that the network plans to restore the house to its original 1970s look. To help do that, HGTV received the blueprints for the home as part of the sale. The house was only used for exterior shots for the iconic TV series, while the interior shots were all done in a studio. Lance Bass reportedly wanted to remodel the place to look exactly like the interior of the show.

Lance Bass was pretty angry that The Brady Bunch house was basically stolen from him by a corporate entity. In a lengthy social media post, Bass discussed the situation and his anger as well as frustration over HGTV putting in the winning bid. Bass claims that the representing estate informed him that he had the winning bid, only to find out later that he had been outbid. He explains.

"The agent representing the estate informed us we made the winning bid (which was way over the asking price) after the final deadline for all offers had passed-even writing up the winning bid for my team after informing me of the good news... The next day, due to unforeseen circumstances the same agent informed us that there's another Corporate Buyer (Hollywood studio) who wants the house at any cost... How is this fair or legal?"

It has now been rumored that HGTV is looking to pair up with Lance Bass for a show about The Brady Bunch house. It has been reported that the network and boy band star are in the early stages of discussions about a possible new show. There is no word on what the show would be about, other than that it would center on The Brady Bunch house. In other words, this could all have been an elaborate scheme to drum up publicity for a reality TV show.

Fans of The Brady Bunch will be able to rest better in knowing that the house is not going to be torn down. Early rumors had suggested that the home was going to be demolished to put up a mansion, but thankfully, that isn't going to happen. Instead, it looks like we're going to get a reality TV show from the ashes of the bidding war. You can read more about the sale of The Brady Bunch home over at Deadline.
