Universal Pictures has secured the rights to author Susan Spencer-Wendel's novel proposal Breathe Deeply in a competitive environment. The news comes just one day after HarperCollins paid a whopping $2 million for her 12-page book proposal.

44-year-old Susan Spencer-Wendel was a court journalist for the Palm Beach Post before she quit last year after being diagnosed with ALS, a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's Disease. She is expected to lose the ability to type and speak very soon, so the author enlisted best-selling author Brett Witter to co-write the inspirational book.

The news comes just a few months after Universal won another bidding war back in March for the rights to Fifty Shades of Grey.
