There are many fans who aren't happy at all about Warner Bros. Discovery pulling the plug on Batgirl. Even though the production had already cost around $90 million with filming having since been completed, the company made the unprecedented move to cancel its release, meaning Batgirl won't be coming out either in theaters or on HBO Max. This pulls the rug out from under all of the film's cast and crew who'd spent months putting their all into the project just for the studio to throw it all away.

Brendan Fraser fans are particularly upset about this news. In the film, Fraser would have been appearing as the supervillain Firefly, the primary antagonist. The casting was a part of the recent "Brenaissance," which has seen the actor getting added to some high-profile projects amid a resurgence of popularity. There had been a lot of excitement over seeing him in the film after footage of him on the set was leaked, but now fans can only imagine what those scenes would have actually been like.

"The worst part about #WarnerBros making the absolute thrash move of cancelling #Batgirl is that now we don't get to see the amazing Brendan Fraser as FireFly... Brb, gonna burn WB down," one tweet reads.

Accepting of the news until realizing Fraser had a big role in the film, another person tweeted, "I'm going to be honest, I wasn't really angry after the Batgirl news yesterday, it's a weird decision and it sucks. I've been F***ING FUMING for the last hour after finding our that Brendan Fraser was in the f***ing movie."

"So I found out the cancelled Batgirl movie was supposed to have Brendan Fraser in it and now I'm REALLY pissed," another tweet reads.

"Wow, WB really are a shambles at handling the DC Universe," says another disappointed fan. "Hopefully the backlash will result in Batgirl getting a release after all. Be a real shame to rob us of Brendan Fraser as a super villain!"

And even those who weren't exactly hyped about Batgirl are still feeling sympathetic for Fraser, as another tweet states, "I was not even remotely interested in Batgirl but denying Brendan Fraser his big movie break is literally crime against humanity."

Batgirl Co-Star Leslie Grace Loved Working With Brendan Fraser

Before it was known that Batgirl would not be getting released, star Leslie Grace spoke about what it was like to work with Brendan Fraser. In a Variety interview, she spoke about how different he was from the villain he portrayed as he was in actuality a "huge teddy bear" on the set. Grace went on to tease the action that Firefly brought to the film which fans will apparently never get the chance to see.

"It was an incredible learning experience to be on set with also action veterans like Brendan Fraser, and soak up it all up. It was so hard because he’s our villain and I’m not supposed to like him but he’s such a huge teddy bear. He is one of the nicest people that I’ve ever met. In our fight sequences the way he would just hit marks, it came from all of his experience. You can’t improvise that kind of experience. There’s some crazy stuff that happens. There’s lots of fire because as everyone knows by now, he plays Firefly. There’s crazy fire. There’s crazy stunts, crazy drops. She’s a biker chick, so you’re going to see her do a bunch of badassery."

Of course, fans are also feeling upset for the movie's filmmakers, as well as other cast members like Leslie Grace, J.K. Simmons, and Michael Keaton. You can see more fan reactions to the news below.
