Brendan Fraser’s comeback has been almost a perfect return for the much-loved actor, and despite the cancelation of Batgirl, it is still very much on track thanks to his role in The Whale. Fraser has been seen recently at several events to promote the movie, and during one of those appearances, he was reunited with his The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor co-star Michelle Yeoh.
Back in 2008, the third movie in The Mummy franchise was seen as the weakest of the trilogy, but despite very mixed reviews, the film managed to take a decent $403 million at the box office. Although this effectively killed off the franchise, both Fraser and Yeoh went on to do other things. Unfortunately, Fraser’s career hit a rocky path due to personal setbacks, which impacted his movie appearances, but that is seemingly being corrected now as the actor is on track to potentially pick up several awards for his role in The Whale, as well as being celebrated at every festival screening of the movie he has attended.
When appearing at the Toronto International Film Festival, Yeoh and Fraser met up and took the time to have a few photos that are enough to make anyone smile. Film studio A24, who is behind Yeoh’s hit movie Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, shared the images on their Twitter account, which can be seen below.
Brendan Fraser Recently Shared His Disappointment Over Batgirl’s Cancelation
Like many DC fans, Brendan Fraser was disappointed at the news that Warner Bros. Discovery was scrapping Batgirl. Obviously, for the actor, the movie was going to be a big part of his recent comeback after many years away from the big and small screen. He recently opened up about the movie being abandoned, saying:
“The fans really wanted to see this film made. Leslie Grace is a dynamo. The movie was shot and conceived for a smaller screen. In this age that we’ve come out of now between streaming service versus theatrical release, it wound up being the canary in the coal mine. What did we learn from this? Work with trusted filmmakers, like Darren [Aranofsky].”
Of course, there was little about the movie’s cancelation that was down to either the stars or the team behind the movie, with Warner Bros. Discovery’s cash grab-back being the sole reason for the almost-completed movie not seeing light of day. However, it is clear that Fraser isn’t allowing that small setback to affect his future, as he is already lining up a number of new roles, including as part of Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon.
The Whale is currently pulling in early reviews that are not wholly positive for the movie itself but have all heaped a massive amount of praise on Fraser’s performance, which many have cited as a potential Oscar contender, as well as a potential winner of numerous other awards for its lead. The Whale is set for general U.S. release on December 9, 2022.
