Brian Koppelman and David Levien are set to write the screenplay for The Winter of Frankie Machine for Paramount Pictures.

The film is based on the Don Winslow novel; Robert De Niro is attached to star and produce with partner Jane Rosenthal. The book is about a mob hitman who gave up the game for a quiet life as the proprietor of a bait shop, says Variety. When the son of a mob boss asks for his backup to help resolve a dispute with another Mafioso, he agrees, only to find he's been set up for a hit.

No word on a production schedule for The Winter of Frankie Machine; the book hits store shelves September 26th.
